Memory Box--1st Draft

There are brain waves that correspond with specific states of consciousness. When thinking about what I want to remember… I always wish I could remember my dreams… & ‘good’ + ‘bad’ experiences. Dreams and waking experiences span different brain wavelengths/different states of consciousness. Representations of brain wavelengths serve as visual depictions of ‘wanting to remember dreams/experiences’—more ‘concrete’ versions of dreams + experiences. Sliding doors as ‘hinge’ for ‘box’ model 1… 3d printed case (with sliding door), 3d printed wavelengths suspended in liquid that corresponds with the different waking states model 2… 3d printed wavelengths revolved 360…. either 1 model for each type of wavelength or 1 model incorporating all of the wavelengths (blending). There would be a sliding slot with peephole(s)… inside would be illuminated, and something would be suspended… perhaps again liquid corresponding with the wavelength(s). Probelm-based Solutions: Crum house and Bike-Seating rough drafts

Both the seating complex, turning corner table and the dumpling sleeping chamber have a lot of potentials, yet the mechanisms is a bit hard to realize. They require a lot of test pieces and precise mechanisms, and they are really testing the limits of the softwares we learned in this class. Hence, we decided to focus on the Crum House idea, and we came up with a new design --a bike-seating complex, with a Citi-Bike-like system in place in Swarthmore. Details are explained below. 1. Crum House. We scaled down the 1st draft model to a 40' x 20' (800 ft^2), one-floor house that empathizes on the horizontality. Memory Box--Final design

My partner for this project is Tess Wei, and here is a link to her blog: https://twei17.wordpress.com/ Our theme for this box design is Container for dreams, good and bad experiences that we don't wish to forget. We designed the opening/closing mechanisms to be a sliding panel with slits. The sliding aspect was to imitate eyelids opening/closing movements. The slits were representative of how you cannot see memory all at once, that it's always half-concealed and half-clear. For our final design, we re-drafted the box and scaled the holes on the sliding shelf the exact dimension of the diameter of the glass vials. We set the tolerance to be 0.3mm all around tracks for sliding motions. We added a sky light for light to enter through the top, so it can allow light to enter the box and enable us to see the contents. Ideally in the future, the box would be made in a much larger scale, and put into a public space as a display/pubic art piece. Another idea we had was to make
